Question

Thank you for booking with Moto Trail Costa Rica, the leading provider of exciting motorcycle adventures in Costa Rica. All our packages include full insurance coverage, unlimited mileage, 24/7 roadside assistance, and local support. By confirming your booking, you agree to our Terms & Conditions and must sign our Liability Waiver before starting your journey.

You must have a valid motorcycle license from your home country to operate a motorcycle in Costa Rica. We cannot rent motorcycles to individuals without proof of a valid license that specifies the motorcycle class. An international driver's license is not required. All riders are required to provide an insurance security deposit, which can be paid with a credit card or cash. Debit cards are not accepted

We are open M to F from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and offer pick-up and drop-off services for an additional fee. Airport pickup/drop-off at San Jose Airport (SJO) has an extra cost of $40, while Liberia Airport has an extra cost of $200. Delivery to a hotel within the San Jose area is free, but additional charges may apply for locations outside this area. Please provide us with your flight information and arrival time if you require an airport pickup, and we will meet you at the arrivals area.

There are no refunds for late pick-ups or early drop-offs. If the motorcycle is not returned on the agreed-upon date and time, and an extension has not been approved by us, we will charge for future rental losses. We offer a 1-hour grace period.

The renter confirms receipt of the motorcycle in perfect and clean condition, including both tires, and undertakes to return it in the same condition (with its keys, equipment, tools, and/or accessories) at the place and date indicated in the rental agreement. Losing or not returning the papers of the motorcycle will result in a $250 USD fee.

It is forbidden to change the technical features of the motorcycle or its keys, equipment, tires, tools, and/or accessories, or to make any aesthetic changes to the motorcycle. If you violate this provision, you will be responsible for all costs incurred by us to restore the motorcycle to its original condition and, to the extent permitted by law, for consequential and incidental damages resulting from our inability to use the motorcycle during the repair.

The remaining balance is due when you pick up the motorcycle, and you can pay with Credit Card, Debit Card, PayPal, or cash. Payment via PayPal incurs a 10% surcharge due to PayPal fees. Please inform us beforehand if you wish to pay in a currency other than US dollars to ensure that we can accept it.

We require a security deposit at the time of vehicle pick-up. This is a hold placed on a credit card or cash, with the amount varying from $850 to $1,500 depending on the motorcycle category chosen.

You are responsible for the equipment provided during your trip. We will provide a briefing on how to use all equipment on the first day, and it is your responsibility to store it safely and take good care of it. Any damaged or stolen equipment will be charged at replacement cost.

It is your responsibility to always wear safety equipment.

We provide 24/7 phone and chat support for any issues related to the vehicle, equipment, or your trip in general. Our whatsapp is +506-8337-4277

According to Costa Rican law, vehicles and motorcycles are not permitted to drive on the beach. You may drive to the beach and park to relax under the palm trees, but driving in the tidal area is not allowed to ensure the safety of other beachgoers and to protect turtle nests and other wildlife.

It is prohibited to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

If you drive on 4x4 paths, trails, or difficult/inaccessible terrain and there is damage or an accident, you are responsible for towing and recovery expenses until a road accessible by a standard tow truck is reached.

We reserve the right to prohibit the use of our motorcycles for any activity that we consider potentially dangerous or that may cause damage to the motorcycle. Therefore, we do not allow our motorcycles to be used to participate in any motorcycle competitions, training tracks, or training courses.

By renting one of our motorcycles, you agree to use it only for its intended purpose, which is personal transportation and tourism.

If we find that a customer has violated this clause, we reserve the right to terminate the rental agreement immediately and to charge the customer for any damages or additional expenses incurred because of the violation.

For the Damage or Loss of the Motorcycle
You must report any accidents or incidents such as theft or vandalism to us via email or WhatsApp and to the police as soon as you discover them.

You are responsible for all damage to the motorcycle that occurs during the rental period, regardless of fault for any reason, including damage caused by collision, weather, vandalism, theft, road conditions, and acts of nature. You are liable with your deposit for:

  a) All physical damage to the motorcycle determined as follows:
    (1) If we determine that the motorcycle is a total loss, the fair market value of the motorcycle, less salvage;
    (2) If we determine that the motorcycle is repairable:
       (A) The difference between the value of the motorcycle immediately before the damage and the value immediately after the damage; or
       (B) The reasonable estimated retail value or actual cost of repair plus the diminished value;
 b) Loss of use, measured by multiplying your daily rental rate by either the actual or estimated number of days from the time the motorcycle is damaged until it is replaced or repaired. You agree that this is a reasonable estimate of loss of use damages in such a case and not a penalty. Loss of use shall be payable regardless of the use of the motorcycle;
 c) A reasonable administrative fee calculated on the basis of the estimate of damages;
 d) Towing, storage, impoundment, and other reasonable incidental and consequential damages.
You are liable for loss or damage to the motorcycle as a result of theft or vandalism related to the theft; you must file a report with the police within 24 hours of your knowledge of a theft and cooperate with us and the police in providing information about the theft; you are responsible for replacing missing equipment and motorcycle documents and keys. You must report any motorcycle accident or theft and vandalism to us and the police upon becoming aware of it.

Mechanical damage and normal wear and tear of the motorcycle do not need to be borne by the client. Examples include a failed sensor, clutch, gasoline pump, etc.

Damages incurred by the client are those caused during the rental, such as a broken gear hanger, clutch handle, muffler, rear-view mirror, etc.

In the case of any mechanical damage, please notify us via WhatsApp, where we are available 24/7. If it is outside office hours, please call. We will do our best to provide a solution.

The security deposit will be returned at the end of the rental after verifying that the motorcycle has no damage.

Depending on the severity of the damage, labor costs may be charged, as well as any future rental losses due to severe damage causing the motorcycle to be out of service.
